What would you say when the unborn is described as a “parasite”?

Published on

I wasn’t going to write about “the Fetus is a Parasite,” a “diary” entry at the loony dailykos website until a friend asked me, “why haven’t you written about “Sasharusha”? I was still reluctant until I saw the piece in a larger context. (I would link the piece but it’s pretty vulgar.)

If you are going to proselytize for abortion on demand without conscience or compunction, it “helps” to turn the most defenseless of God’s creatures into threats—and hideously ugly to boot. So if those “anti-choicers” can “exploit photos of miscarried late term fetuses,” surely it’s only fair to start out with a picture of a parasite.

Why? Not only out of equity but because Sasharusha does not “see them [the unborn] as cute and cuddly. I see them as terrifying and scary. I see pregnancy the same way.”

It is indicative, is it not, that the writer starts out with a lie: that whether you approve or disapprove of showing photos of babies aborted late in pregnancy, they are not real baby brutally killed but “miscarriages.”

So, how is pregnancy “a parasitic relationship”? [“Z/E/F” refers to zygote, embryo, fetus]:

“The Z/E/F sucks the nutrients from the mother.

The ‘relationship’ only benefits the fetus.

The mother’s organs and body parts become damaged.

The fetus controls the mother.

The fetus doesn’t give anything ‘back.’”

And to anticipate any objections, she quickly adds,

“Some people would argue that this is a form of Mutualism, which is a relationship where both the host and the parasite benefit, but how does this benefit the mother? Where is that ‘benefit’”?

Well, actually, there are lots of benefits—to the mother and, by the way, to the father who is, of course, a non-entity in his own right. (Although, come to think of it, he’s probably a “parasite” to Sasharusha, too.)

And then, the bulk of her piece, which is to turn a normal pregnancy into a full-blown attack on women, engineered by a hostile force which is conscripting her body in a manner essentially indistinguishable from the creator in the famous “Alien” film.

So,

“There you have it, folks. A fetus is a damn parasite and it invades the mother’s body like one too. I am the kind of woman who prefers science, studies, and medical facts over throwing pregnancy on the ‘magical miracle’ band wagon. It is not magical, it’s called genetics and biology. God has nothing to do with it either. And it is not a damn miracle!”

I was about to offer my response when it occurred to me I would much rather first read what YOU would say.

We’re in this together (to borrow from Sasharusha), an example of Mutualism.
