Editor’s Note: A previous repost from Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) concerned the significant increase in taxpayer-funded abortions. The following is a further update from MCCL, which provides further details.
This week, we received information that was less than satisfactory. The number of abortions funded by taxpayers increased by over 16% in 2014, reaching a total of 3,957. The cost to taxpayers was $953,187, according to the latest figures from the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
It can be reasonably deduced that the abortionist responsible for the majority of the increase was the same individual. As might be expected, Planned Parenthood was responsible for the majority of the increase.
The number of abortions performed in the state has been on a downward trajectory, reflecting a growing reluctance among women to undergo the procedure. Since 2007, the number of abortions has decreased annually, with the exception of one year. Similarly, in only two of the aforementioned years has the number of taxpayer-funded abortions increased. However, 2014 saw a more pronounced increase than has occurred since 2000.
As was the case with the trend-breaking increase in total abortions in 2014, which was almost entirely due to Planned Parenthood, so was the jump in taxpayer-funded abortions. In 2014, Planned Parenthood achieved an increase in the number of abortions it performed of 620. Of this total, 514 (83 percent) were funded by taxpayers.
What can be gleaned from this information? Planned Parenthood is leveraging taxpayer-funded abortions to enhance its financial performance. Planned Parenthood is capitalising on the economic vulnerability of low-income women.
The practice of taxpayer-funded abortions has become a means by which the abortion industry exploits vulnerable low-income women, with the intention of increasing its financial resources.
MCCL is engaged in lobbying activities with the objective of promoting legislation that would result in the termination of taxpayer-funded abortions. S.F. 683 and H.F. 607 would bring an end to the forced funding of the abortion industry by taxpayers, as well as the mistreatment of poor women and the killing of unborn children.
We urge you to assist us in saving lives and protecting women. It is recommended that you encourage your state senator and representative to endorse this proposed legislation. Further information regarding the means of contacting legislators is available at www.leg.state.mn.us/leg/legislators.
The website www.mccl.org/tips-for-contacting-elected-officials.html provides guidance on how to communicate with your lawmakers.
I would like to express my gratitude for your continued efforts to safeguard the wellbeing of unborn children and for your invaluable contributions to the MCCL.
