As we commemorated Black History Month in February and are now in the midst of celebrating Women’s History Month, it is imperative that we take time to reflect on current events that deal with both. My mind immediately turns to Planned Parenthood and its racist roots. Planned Parenthood claims to defend women and minorities while in fact it exploits them both. Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortion in America and receives half a billion dollars yearly of your tax dollars.
A closer examination of the targeting of minority communities by Planned Parenthood is warranted. While black women represent 13% of the population, they account for 36% of all abortions. According to The Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than five times as likely to have an abortion as white women. BlackGenocide.org reports on a 1993 Howard University study that examined black women and breast cancer. The study indicated that African American women over the age of 50 were 4.7% more likely to develop breast cancer if they had undergone any abortions compared to women who had not had any abortions.
This is a significant finding. A comprehensive review of Planned Parenthood literature did not reveal the existence of this study. The placement of abortion facilities is also noteworthy. According to the website protectingblacklife.org, “A 2010 census reveals that Planned Parenthood is targeting minority neighborhoods. 79% of their surgical abortion facilities are located within walking distance of African American or Hispanic/Latino neighborhoods.”
Let us summarize the racist roots of Planned Parenthood with the words of its founder, Margaret Sanger. In her book, Pivot of Civilization, Sanger refers to blacks, immigrants, and indigents as “human weeds,” “reckless breeders,” and “spawning… human beings who should have never been born.” At Florida Right to Life, we will continue to fight to expose the truth behind Planned Parenthood and push for their defunding. We are encouraged that the American public is finally learning the truth. We will persist in advocating for women while defending all human life, from the moment of conception until natural death.
Abortion Statistics
It is encouraging to learn that analytical information indicates that the number of babies being saved is on the rise, while the number of abortions and abortion rates are both declining. However, it is also important to recognize that despite these positive developments, the reality is that thousands of babies are still being aborted every day in every corner of the United States. The abortion statistics reported by the State of Florida each year are documented by the Agency for Healthcare Administration (ACHA). It is important to note that there is an underreporting of numbers and also cases that are not reported.
