A colleague reminded me today of something that had slipped m my mind entirely for which I apologize. On January 14, it will be ten years to the day when the special Grand Jury released its massive report indicting the criminal behavior of “House of Horrors” abortionist Kermit Gosnell and the scandalous neglect of virtually the entire medical and political establishments in Pennsylvania of a man who would eventually be convicted of three counts of first degree murder and one count of involuntary manslaughter.
If you recall, it was the ultimate non-partisan body–a criminal grand jury–that supplied us with the graphic, 261-page horror story of Kermit Gosnell, M.D., Gosnell stood accused of deliberately delivering very, very late-term babies alive and then “snipping” their spinal cords. A refugee from Nepal also died in a clinic that smelled of cat urine, where the furniture was stained with blood and the “doctor” kept a collection of severed baby feet.
As often as possible, the report says, Gosnell induced labor for women so pregnant that, as he joked on one occasion, the baby was so big he could ‘walk me to the bus stop.’ Then, hundreds of times over the years, he slit their little necks, according to the grand jury report.
Once the report was public, two things were inevitable. First, Gosnell, then 69, would be indicted. Second, virtually the entire media would work overtime to do nothing. They inexcusably ignored this scandal, kind of a precursor to the way media outlets self-silenced themselves instead of asking questions about now President-elect Joe Biden and his family.
I wrote many times about an enduring misunderstanding. Gosnell didn’t “botch” abortions. He knew he didn’t have the skill to slaughter a huge unborn baby, so he had his woefully undereducated and untrained staff begin the abortion. Gosnell would typically come in late at night and deliver the babies to women moaning in unbelievable pain—and then murder their babies.
Pro-abortionists, masters of political ju-jitsu that they are, shamelessly attempted to turn this ghastly display of brutality and cruelty to their advantage. Gosnell is an outlier, a renegade, and exception-to-the-rule, etc., etc. Judge us by our shining face—Planned Parenthood—and give us even more money.
But PPFA’s picture-perfect profile fell apart, like the portrait of Dorian Gray, as we have written about dozens of times.
Since the grand jury report and the ensuing trial, we have many examples that demonstrate that callous indifference, a thirst for money, and total indifference to the fate of babies and their mothers drowns the basic humanity of those who participate in the slaughter.
We excerpted virtually the entire report over a period of months. You can the report in its entirety here.
The opening paragraph of the Overview summarizes the case perfectly:
This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women. What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable, babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors. The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels– and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths. Over the years, many people came to know that something was going on here. But no one put a stop to it.
