As is the case with numerous other grandparents, my wife and I eagerly peruse the images our middle daughter sends us of her infant son. We do so via text message on a daily basis, and one might be forgiven for assuming that I would not be surprised at the extent of change that has occurred in the last few months.
However, I am.
Upon examination of the images captured on the morning in question, it became evident that they evoked a particular fascination with the concept of human life and its cyclical nature. This fascination was particularly evident in the form of time-lapse videos, which document the evolution of a human being from its earliest stages of development to the point of delivery and beyond.
I have observed these phenomena on a periodic basis, re-watching them and subsequently re-watching them again.
To illustrate, I have once again revisited a 1:30 video, entitled “A Photo Every Day for 9 Months.”
It has been reported that the video has received millions of views. The rationale behind this phenomenon is as follows.
It is evident from other sources that the mother, upon learning of her pregnancy, resolved to take a photograph on a daily basis, depicting her changing body and the growth of her unborn child. The methodology employed is both ingenious and effective.
From the side, she extends a large pink balloon and imitates inhaling the air. As the balloon diminishes in size, the subject increases the size of her inhalation until the balloon is completely empty.
Ultimately, the subject is positioned with her back to the camera. The subject then turns around, and we see that the mother is holding her infant daughter.
One might inquire as to the expressions of the mother. The experience is indescribable. Observe the subject as she kisses her infant, and you will comprehend the reasons for my affection for this video.
